Offset your review of Reading Harry Potter: Critical Essays

Recommends it for: elitist literature professors
They seemed similar they were written past English professors who were mad that people were reading books that weren't "the classics" or edgy abstract novels written for English professors to clarify. They overanalyzed (do you recollect that the brooms are symbols of feminine domesticity? Or that Gryffindor Tower is a phallic symbol? Or that Ron's brothers working away is symbolic of neoimperialism? I don't . . . ), and although that fabricated them rather agreeable, they didn't enhance my enjoyment of the booThey seemed similar they were written by English language professors who were mad that people were reading books that weren't "the classics" or edgy abstract novels written for English professors to clarify. I read this while researching Harry Potter and Christianity for a newspaper. Fantabulous compendium of essays nearly the get-go few Harry Potter books. Essays have diverse topics and include an assay of Wizarding Constabulary, a study of child development and Harry Potter, and the significance of Hogwarts students being divided into houses. They make some interesting (and occasionally accurate) predictions for the later novels. This is an incredibly nerdy read but I actually enjoyed it.

The essays titled "Prophylactic every bit Houses"; "Cruel Teachers and Treacherous Texts"; "Cinderfella: JK Rowling's Wily Web of Gender"; and "Hermione and the Business firm-elves" were especially well written and informative. The 2d and third essay listed were my favorite. Though published earlier the release of Club of the Phoenix, this book is a great collection for those interested in analyzing the serial' major themes.The essays titled "Safe equally Houses"; "Cruel Teachers and Treacherous Texts"; "Cinderfella: JK Rowling's Wily Web of Gender"; and "Hermione and the House-elves" were especially well written and informative. The 2nd and third essay listed were my favorite. Though published before the release of Society of the Phoenix, this book is a great drove for those interested in analyzing the series' major themes. ...more

Well I read this in my Harry Potter class. I liked some essays better than others (obviously), but all the essays certainly brought upwardly many points that spring-boarded into our discussions. Recommended for anyone who loves Harry, or professors considering teaching HP in course (delight do, the level of discussion and response in our class is like nothing I've ever seen before). Excellent compendium of essays based around the get-go half of the serial. I peculiarly enjoyed the predictions about future novels. The organisation left nada lacking and I retrieve any Harry Potter fan would relish this compilation.

Most of the studies were not specially insightful, although I think they were mildly interesting to a HP fan. HMM PERHAPS THE Serial *DOES NO WORK*? lol disquisitional theory
